Killer Mike, owner of The Swag Shop barbershop chain in Atlanta, GA is refusing to re-open barbershops during pandemic. He stated he will not be reopening immediately after Governor Brian Kemp recently announced the shops are permitted to re-open.
The now activist stated that he and his wife are not “comfortable” reopening the shops at this time as an extra effort to keep both staff members and clients safe. Killer Mike told TMZ that his primary concern is “the safety of our employees and customers”, while agreeing that he believes businesses should be making money.
During his interview with TMZ, Killer Mike mentioned the negative impact of COVID-19 on the black communities, and would just like to “wait it out” versus putting his barbers and customers in danger. Kemp’s decision to lift restrictions allowing barbershops, salons, gyms and other similar businesses to re-open has been heavily criticized nationwide. Killer Mike says he hopes government officials will soon rescind their decision on re-opening businesses.
