Reche Caldwell was shot and killed in Tampa on Saturday according to his mother Ms. Deborah Caldwell.
Tampa Police said that at :10:57p.m. they were dispatched to a shooting on the 3600 block of Hanna Ave. Upon arrival they found a man with gun shot wounds in the front yard of the home. Tampa Fire Rescue transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
According to police, this does not appear to be a random incident.
Deborah Caldwell, Reche Caldwell’s mother, said her on was killed in the shooting.
“Reche was not the type of young man who would be involved in something like this”, Deborah Caldwell told reporters.
She told reporters Reche and his girlfriend were leaving and they returned for her to get a jacket.
Detectives told Deborah they suspect Reche may have been ambushed by someone hiding in nearby bushes. No details were released by detectives to support this theory.
Reche was 41 years old. Caldwell was a Tampa native, he attended Jefferson High School and played football at The University of Florida.He was drafted in 2002 by the San Diego Chargers, he then went on to play for the New England Patriots, and the Washington Redskins.
