The trial of six alleged gang members implicated in the 2020 murder of Chicago rapper FBG Duck has commenced, marking a significant step in the pursuit of justice. With the rapper, whose real name was Carlton Weekly, tragically shot and killed in the Gold Coast neighborhood of Chicago, the trial holds significant weight in addressing the violence that has plagued the community.
Approximately 150 potential jurors began the selection process by responding to questionnaires in Chicago on Tuesday (October 10). The trial is expected to last up to two months, with the jury’s identities safeguarded to prevent potential witness tampering.
The accused individuals, Charles Liggins, Christopher Thomas, Kenneth Roberson, Marcus Smart, Ralph Turpin, and Tacarlos Offerd, are facing charges of murder in furtherance of racketeering, carrying a potential life sentence. Prosecutors have alleged that the defendants are members or associates of the O-Block gang, with FBG Duck being a rival of the said gang.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting reveal a harrowing account of targeted violence. According to authorities, Turpin allegedly instructed O-Block members to converge on the Gold Coast area and eliminate FBG Duck upon sighting the rapper in the vicinity. Subsequently, two vehicles arrived at the scene, with four individuals disembarking and opening fire on the victim.
FBG Duck was subjected to 16 gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Prosecutors have further claimed that members of the O-Block gang publicly claimed responsibility for the fatal shooting, exacerbating the impact of the tragic event on the community.
As the trial progresses, the pursuit of justice for FBG Duck remains at the forefront, with the hope that the legal process will serve to address the underlying issues of violence and unrest within the city.
Recently Duck’s mother has been on social media stating that some of the defendants within the case are “snitching” on each other. Here’s what she had to say:
